 2016 Preview

B.T. Washington finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year B.T. Washington finished sixth in Class 5A region two with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Golden Eagles have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Golden Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016.

B.T. Washington was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Golden Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.8 points a game.

B.T. Washington struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.0 points a game.

Since 2010, the B.T. Washington football program has struggled with a record of 13-45.

Over the past 25 seasons, B.T. Washington has not won much with a record of 58-182. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 5A and 365th in the AHSAA. The Golden Eagles have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2004.

The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Maurice Heard who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-38 over the past five seasons at B.T. Washington. The Golden Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Heard.

Coach Heard's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 10-38 (20.8%).

The B.T. Washington Golden Eagles will play in Class 5A region two during the 2016 season.

This season, the Golden Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

The Golden Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, August 19 at Marbury Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to St. James by a score of 42-22.

B.T. Washington and Marbury have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Golden Eagles have a 3-1-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2013 with Marbury winning by a score of 33-25.
